The First Election: The First Election for the local council was held on 16thApril 1994. The Population of Gharb is approximately 1000-1150 persons,which 753 of them has their votes.Of the 753, 35 of them are non residents. In this First election they contest ten(10) candidates, Six(6) in the name of Nationalist Party (P.N.) and four(4) Indipendent Candidates. The Results of the First Election was: Councellors elected: 5 , Voted: 627 Persons ie. 83.26% Valid Votes: 601 , Kuota: 101. The Canditates Obtained these Results Nationalist Party: Apap Joseph - First Count = 43 votes. Apap Louis - First Count=57 votes, Last Count = 103 votes , Elected - IV. Cauchi Alfred - First Count=80 votes, Last Count = 101 votes, Elected - II. Cauchi Maurice - First Count = 64 votes, Last Count = 101 votes, Elected - III. Coppini Paul - First Count = 48 votes. Frendo Tony - First Count = 32 votes. Indipendent Canditates: Agius Demetrius - First Count = 120 votes, Last Count = 101 votes, Elected - I. Camilleri John - First Count = 28 votes. Portelli Eugenio - First Count = 81 votes. Saliba Mario - First Count = 70 votes, Last Count = 102 votes, Elected - V. Total: P.N - 324 VOTES - 53.91%. INDIPENDENT CANDITATES - 277 VOTES - 46.08%. Passed Events Wine and Pizza Party(Gharb Local Council) The Gharb Local Council organised Wine and Pizza party on Friday 19th October 2001 infront the Gharb Church . Christmas Party for Children The Gharb Local Council organised a Christmas Party For Children.This was held on Thursday 4th January 2001 at the Gharb Parish Centre. Boat Trip For Youghts The Gharb Local Council organised boat trip for gharb Youghts on the Gozo Princess ,on Friday 25th August 2000. Sports Centre In Gharb On Saturday 16th October a ceremony was held by the council to place the first stone of the Sports Centre-Part of the Project of Recreation for the family . This was held in Tumas Cassar street. Activities The Gharb local Council organized two different activities: one for all the family and the other one for youghts. On Thursday 6th January 2000 the council organized a farmhouse Party for the youghts, and on the same day for all the family the council organized a day at the circus in malta . Carnival in Gharb With Collaboration with the Gharb Local Council, activities was held on Thursday 2nd March 2000 at the Parish Centre,where a variety includes sketches and Fancy Dress Show.On Monday 6th March 2000 a programme was organized by the Gharb Local Council,that includes competitions of Fancy Dress.
