Nöel Enterprises of
Novy Mezószdymos, Stary Vevodstvi, Hŕromszék is the family holding company of the heirs of Alfreid
Nöel. Nöel was the inventor of dynamite, and for the duration of the patent he and
his family company collected a license fee on every stick of the stuff produced
across Scandia (well, from those countries that recognized the patent - a few
manufactured without license). They got filthy rich. NE now
is comprised of six divisions.

Nöel
Labs is the most widely recognized company
in the family conglomerate. Their influence is felt far beyond the borders of Hŕromszék,
having grown into a general-purpose chemical and electrical research institute. Their work is by
no means exclusively theoretical - NL scientists and engineers typically are awarded
between one and two hundred patents per year. One arm of the Labs does safety certification
of electrical appliances - their NL label is what assures consumers of compliance with Hz codes, and
by extension, with the codes of many other nations with reciprocal electrical standards
agreements.

BoomStick Blasting is
the oldest facet of the family conglomerate. BoomStick manufactures
both dynamite and its precursor chemicals. They are no longer the cash cow of
the family business, since the main dynamite patents have long since expired. They
do produce large quantities of Things That Go Boom, and while no longer an exclusive manufacturer
they are recognized as producers of high-quality products.

Enfelt Cartridge Co.
with the motto "Propulsion for Penetration", produces finished ammo (sized for personal arms up
to artillery) and naval artillery propellant. Their market is both domestic and
scandiawide. Enfelt plants do assembly and packaging; they purchase the majority
of their materials from other NE divisions (explosives) and outside suppliers (metal). Enfelt
has produced quality rifle ammunition since 1455; other products were developed from that established base.

Härzen-Enfelt High Explosives
produces explosives of all types (except dynamite, BoomStick's specialty) for sale to
munitions and arms manufacturers worldwide. The purity and hence steady
predictability of their wares is unexcelled, and HE has pioneered methods of safe
transport of what is an inherently dangerous product. Several of their explosive
formulations are shipped as binary chemicals - each component inert, only attaining volatility
once combined or catalyzed within a customer's premesis. To eliminate
even the chance of a train wreck or highway accident causing explosions, each binary
component is shipped in separate trains or trucks, or on separate days, or by different
routes. A growing proportion of HE's product line is related to solid-rocket
fuel for aerospace use.

The
smallest of the Nöel companies, Trajectory Stump Dentistry is nevertheless spread
far and wide across Hŕromszék. Working on a franchise model, each local
operator is responsible for his own business, just sending a portion of profits back to
Novy Mezószdymos. Alfried Nöel V personally oversees the Trajectory offices in
Novy Mezószdymos and nearby towns in Stary Vevodstvi, and trains new franchisees in
the fine art of blowing up tree stumps.

Military-use
explosives are NE's largest-selling market segment, but the company has always preferred to
be known for its civilian-use companies. Hokinst River Demolition is
one such subsidiary, using BoomStick and HEHE explosives to demolish obsolete bridges and buildings
and to excavate for highway and railway works. Leading a fourteenth-century
industry into the sixteenth century, Hokinst has developed sophisticated modelling
software to aid excavation and demolition projects.
