June 18th 2004 I lost my best friend. The cancer won. At about 4:30 am she told me it was
time, so we went to the ER vet, where she was helped to pass. I held her in my arms and it
was very fast, and peaceful. The vet told me that if Tia was hers, that is what she would have
done.
During the last two weeks of Tias life, she was unable to lick. She was always one of those
doggies that licked to show affection so I got LOTS of kisses. I know it was hard for her when
she was too weak. She would try, but what came out were these tiny tongue dabs.
On the table, during our last time alone in the exam room, I looked at her and said "Tia, is this ok?
Is this right?" She looked back in my eyes, and reached out, licked my nose. Not the little
dab, but a normal Tia kiss. The first one in weeks. This of course only made me cry harder, but it also
gave me the courage to let her go.
Now that she is gone, I feel empty and very sick. She took my heart with her. I hope she is healthy now.
I hope she is happy and safe, waiting for me.
