Gradings


Gradings are held locally at Swindon Dojo, or at other Dojos throughout the South of England. Gradings are also held at seminars held by the BKAA for all grades, these take place twice a year.

The main Dojo is at Finsbury, London

The BKAA recognises 6 kyu grades and Dan Grades above these, currently there are several students who have achieved 1st Dan (Black Belt) at the Swindon Club and there being 1st, 2nd and 3rd Dan available to demonstrate techniques during our practice sessions.


  1. Make sure your membership is up to date
  2. You  must have your sensei's permission to enter an examination
  3. Please do not forget to bring your grading card to the examination, as well as your grading fee, if you have not already paid it (should be paid two weeks in advance)
  4. Allow yourself plenty of time to get to the dojo where the examination is taking place
  5. Inform the examiner is you have an injury
  6. Ensure that the examiner signs you card if you pass
  7. Please bring along your weapons (Tanto, Jo, Bokken), if you have them
  8. There must be a minimum of 6 months between gradings, with the exception of White to Red belt (6 weeks)
